Vergean Martin

Vergean Martin was born on July 6, 1932, to Lynch and Mary Ann Galloway Magee. Vergean attended church and Sunday school on a regular basis. She treasured going to rummage sales and attending church events. Vergean attended Friendship School in Sandy Hook, Miss. She was the church secretary and Sunday school teacher for over 30 years. Her love of Christ led her to work as Mission Society president for many years.

Vergean departed this life on Aug. 18, 2014, at Riverside Hospital in Franklinton.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children Mitchell Martin (Will), Melvin Martin (Kim) of Milwaukee, Donald Martin (Mattie) of Houston, Dorothy Musse of Milwaukee and Ida Johnson of Houston; grandchildren, Donald Martin Jr., Chemette Martin, Kaela Martin, Brianna Martin, Harry Cunningham, Donnie Martin and Otease Evans; seven great-grandchildren; three godchildren, Willie (Iness) Peters, Carolyn Lewis and Audry (Lea) James; her sisters, Arlean Gardner, Mable Tucker, Clarenda Rollins and Lila Boone (Dura); and her only brother, Tony Magee (Margie).

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Martin Jr.; her parents, Lynch and Mary Ann Galloway Magee; her grandson, Michael W. Parrett II; and her siblings, James Magee, John Magee, Lillie White and Moses Magee.

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sunlight Baptist Church in Sandy Hook, with funeral services Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Charles Galloway officiating. Burial will be in Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery in Sandy Hook.
