The fifth and final Rendezvous on the Road series of the summer is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. tonight in the pocket park in the 400 block of South Columbia Street.

The idea behind the series is to promote shopping locally and supporting local businesses. Stores along the street will remain open during the event.

Downtown Main Street Association sponsors the event. The series kicked off in March. Tonight’s event is the fifth installment of 2014.

“”Rendezvous on the Road has grown each and every month,” Main Street Manager Robin Day said. “We’re looking forward to bringing in new ideas for next spring. We hope to bring more events in through the end of the year. The community support has been overwhelming.”

Food and beverages will be served tonight. Chicken and sausage gumbo is on the food menu.

Activities include selling VIP raffle tickets to the Sept. 26-27 Blues and Heritage Festival in September at Cassidy Park. The drawing is at 8 p.m. An antique car show is on the program. Owen Tufts and Big Daddy O will provide musical entertainment.

Day said South Columbia Street will be closed to through traffic, but citizens will be allowed to park on the street. The corner of Columbia and Third Street and the corner of Columbia and Fourth Street will be closed to traffic.

“We’re going to do this again in 2015,” Day said. “I just want to thank everybody for their support and to continue shopping locally and supporting these downtown merchants who have invested in our town in building a better Bogalusa.”

After the Blues and Heritage Festival, Main Street’s Harvest Fest is Oct. 31, followed by Tis the Season Street Stroll Nov. 29-30.
