Samuel Genco

Samuel Gregory Genco, age 65 and a resident of Bogalusa, was born on Nov. 30, 1948, in Bogalusa and passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at his home.
Greg was a retired superintendent of Bogalusa City Schools and owner of Genco’s Amusement Co. Inc.
He is survived by three brothers, Gary Genco of Metairie and Stephen Genco and Bryan Genco, both of Bogalusa; a sister-in-law, Cherie Genco of Bogalusa; Diane Moran, a longtime loving friend, of Bogalusa; Ken Jenkins, a close family friend, of Metairie; many cousins and other family members; and 38 godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sam Genco and Lena Mae Saltaformaggio Genco.
He was a member of numerous church, civic and educational organizations. Greg was a lifelong member of Annunciation Catholic Church. Some of the many organizations he was involved in included the Knights of Columbus, the Annunciation School Board, Eucharistic Minister, the Bogalusa Chamber of Commerce, Nellie Byers School, the Jaycees, Kappa Delta Pi, MCCA and the Washington Parish Fair. Greg proudly reigned as King MCCA X.
Greg chaired countless committees. A few of them include Children’s Coronation, anniversaries of Annunciation Catholic Church and School, Dogwood Festival, Fourth of July Festivities and many, many, more. Recently, he chaired the Centennial Tour of Homes.
Greg received many awards and recognitions. A few of them include Louisiana Teacher Of The Year, Bogalusa Citizen Of The Year and the Archdiocese of New Orleans’ St. Louis Award.
Visitation will be held all on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Annunciation Catholic Church from 9 a.m. to noon, with Rosary at 9:30 a.m. The Funeral Service Mass will be held at noon, with the Rev. Father Daniel Brouillette officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
