Douglas Ladner

Douglas Eldee Ladner, age 85 and a resident of Pine, died at 4 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at his home after a courageous 24-year battle with cancer. He was a longtime member of Pine Missionary Baptist Church and loved working in his garden. He enjoyed raising his chickens and formerly worked in the maintenance department at Resthaven Living Center. Douglas was born in Lumberton, Miss., on Sept. 6, 1928, and married Molly Duncan on March 1, 1956. He always loved his family and cherished all the time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Molly Duncan Ladner of Pine; four sons and daughters-in-law: James Douglas Ladner and Charlotte Ladner of Amite, Jimmy Ray Ladner and Lisa Ladner of Pine, John Ray Ladner of Franklinton and Brandon Aaron Ladner of Pine; a daughter and son-in-law: Janice Faye Wagoner and Larry Wagoner of Carriere, Miss.; five grandchildren: Donny James Ladner, Hannah Leigh Ladner, Jennifer Lynn Wagoner, Joshua Edward Wagoner, Sarah Louise Ladner Ebarb and Michael Ebarb; two great-grandchildren: Gavin Scott Bernard and Evan Shane Bernard; four brothers and sisters-in-law: George E. Ladner and Pat Ladner, Bruce Ladner and Gayle Ladner, David and Dianna Ladner and Charles and Renee Ladner, all of Pine; three sisters and a brother-in-law: Betty Rose Phillips of Tylertown and Margaret Rawls and Dolores and Bobby Luper, all of Pine; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldee Ladner and Cascelia Beall Ladner, grandson Jim Harley Ladner, a brother, Conrad Ray Ladner, sister Kathryn L. Breland and brothers-in-law Melvin Rawls and Eld. Ted Phillips.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home Tuesday Aug. 12, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Clyde Cooper and Bro. Brent King officiating. Burial will follow in the Maples Cemetery.

The pallbearers are Josh Wagoner, Donny Ladner, Joey Philipello, Heath Wayne Spears, Brian Luper and Ryan Ladner. The honorary pallbearers are Dr. Vince Kidd and Dr. Mark James.
