Aug. 5 was a good day for the honest, hard-working citizens of Washington Parish and a bad day for drug dealers.

A months-long Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation into the sale of illegal drugs in Washington Parish resulted in a drug roundup on Tuesday, when officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Franklinton Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Rayburn Correctional Center and the Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole saturated the parish with 25 warrants in hand. A bonus during the drug roundup was the recovery of a Honda four-wheeler, which was reported stolen out of North Carolina.

The vehicle was recovered at the resident of wanted suspect McGowan in the Angie community.

“We have been targeting these drug dealers for a long time. We knew they were selling drugs, and it took a while to make a solid case against each one of them. They have been arrested now and will have to face a judge and jury to explain why they knowingly sold drugs in our parish. We missed a few on this roundup because they weren’t home, but we will get them soon. You can count on that.

“I am sick and tired of drug dealers and their related crimes,” Seal added. “Most burglaries and thefts in our parish can be directly tied to the drug trade. We know the names of other drug dealers, and we are working daily to build cases against them. Once we have enough evidence to sustain a conviction, we will obtain a warrant for their arrest. The Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force has done an excellent job, and I commend them for their efforts. I am very grateful to the other agencies, which provided manpower to make these arrests. We have a great relationship with each of these agencies, and it is good to have the DEA involved in our efforts to combat the drug trade in Washington Parish.

“If you are a drug dealer, child molester, sexual predator, thief, wife beater or any other kind of criminal, I am putting you on notice,” continued Seal. “We are watching you, and we will always have room for you in the Washington Parish Jail. Once we catch you, it will be our pleasure to give you an escort directly to jail.”
