Donald Edsel Martin

Donald Edsel Martin, age 75 and a resident of Pine, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday July 30, 2014, at his home. He was a member of Pine Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Pine Masonic Lodge for nearly 50 years. Edsel retired as a linesman from Washington/St. Tammany Electric Co-op after 35 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling to the Smokey Mountains. Edsel cherished his wife and family, and he was well liked by everyone that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patsy Taylor Martin of Pine; four children and spouses: Donna and Hal Russell of Pine, Timothy and Connie Martin of Thomas, Anthony and Lana Martin of Walker and Tonya and Bro. Jason Skipper of Picayune, Miss.; eight grandchildren and spouses: Miranda Russell Jones and Auston Jones, Scott and Raven Martin, Jonathan Martin, Peyton Martin, Alissa Martin, Landon Martin, Abigail Skipper and Titus Skipper; one great-grandchild, Hunter Martin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dollar Martin and Rosetta Breland Martin, brothers Melton, Marlon, Lester and Silmon Martin, sisters Lois Freeman, Wilma Pounds and Shirley Freeman and a grandson, Chance Russell.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home Thursday, July 31, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at Pine Missionary Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Bro. Brent King, Bro. Jason Skipper, Bro. Glen Stuart and Bro. Richard Magee officiating. Burial will follow in the Martin Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Scott Martin, Auston Jones, Kolton Quinn, Gary Freeman, Sidney Taylor and Mark Barber. Honorary pallbearers include Kyle Magee, Eric Pierce, James Miller and Jacob Moore.
