Edward Penton

Edward Penton of Bogalusa died on July 19, 2014 at the age of 77.

As a young man he attended Southern University for two years at which point he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Edward Penton returned to Bogalusa, where he embarked upon the start of his life, career and family. He is survived by his second wife, Esther Paulette Penton, and one stepson Erik Johnson. He is also survived by his first wife, Joyce Penton, who is the mother of his first son, Christopher Penton (Karla Penton). Daughter Yvette Bearden and son Kareem Warner are also survivors of Edward Penton. Edward leaves many memories to 24 grandchildren, three sisters, Mae Helen Maynard and Bennie Moss of Tacoma Wash., Martha Ann Maxwell of New York, N.Y., and a host of friends and relatives.

Edward was preceded in death by his mother and father, Olivia and Ira Penton, one sister, Zola Mae Washington, and four brothers, James, David, Ozell, and RT Penton.

Edward retired from Brown Mcgehee Funeral Home where he served in many roles. He was a devoted member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. There he assumed responsibility for maintenance. He will always be remembered as the fun loving, “got to make you laugh man,” devoted to helping those less fortunate. One of his favorite quotes: “You earn your keep by the sweat of your brow.”

Visitation will be Friday, July 25, from 2-6 p.m., with a family hour from 6-7 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa.

The funeral service will be Saturday, July 26, at 3 p.m. at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bogalusa, with Dr. Rev. Raymond Mims officiating. Interment will be held in Bogalusa Cemetery.
