Donnie Vernell Ishman was born on March 9, 1982, and departed this life on Sunday, July 7, 2014.

Donnie was the son of Darlene Ishman and the late Larry Holmes Sr.

Donnie, fondly known to many as “Punnie Pun,” was reared in Bogalusa and in the Salter Chapel A.M.E. Church. He later joined First Thessalonians Baptist Church. He graduated from Bogalusa High School in 2001. After traveling and working several jobs, he was lastly employed with Coastal Catering and Pioneer Packing Company.

Donnie had a love for the youth and dedicated much of his time working with them and volunteered countless hours with the Bogalusa High School Lumberjack Band.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving, dedicated wife, Marie Smith Ishman; his mother, Darlene Ishman; daughters, Shariya Ishman and Gadonnia Alexander; son, Godarro Alexander; two stepchildren; brothers, Larry Holmes Jr., Derrick (Toya) Ishman, Benjamin Holmes and Lonnie Holmes; sisters, Celeste (Raymond) May, Colisha Holmes and Amber Mack; and two granddaughters, A`Nyla Griffin and Alaia Smith, who he loved dearly. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Holmes Sr.; and grandparents, Joseph and Oveida Holmes and James and Cora Ishman.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Crain & Son’s Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at Greater Salter Chapel A.M.E. Church on Tuesday, July 25, at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Bogalusa Cemetery.
