The Franklinton Police Department has made two arrests in connection with a homicide Thursday, with one suspect charged with first-degree murder and the other with accessory to first-degree murder.

The department received a 9-1-1 call Thursday at approximately 4:45 p.m. in reference to an individual finding a deceased person in their home in the 1500 block of Parker Street, according to Capt. Randall Penton.

Officers arrived and identified the deceased as Eric Warren of Franklinton. Warren, 17, had suffered a single gunshot wound to his chest. The determination of cause of death is pending an autopsy.

After conducting an investigation and speaking to witnesses, the Franklinton Police Department obtained a search warrant for Demontez Martin of Franklinton, 18, for first-degree murder, Penton said. A search warrant was also obtained for Shneille Jenkins of Franklinton, 20, for accessory to first-degree murder.

Martin turned himself in to Franklinton Police Friday morning, and Jenkins was located by officers a short while later, according to Penton.

Martin has been charged with first-degree murder, and Jenkins has been charged with accessory to first-degree murder. Both suspects have been booked into the Washington Parish Jail.

Jenkins was released Friday night on a $25,000 bond. As of press time, bond information was not available for Martin.

The investigation is ongoing, and there could be additional charges to follow, Penton said.

He said the Franklinton Police Department would like to thank Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police and the Division of Probation and Parole for their assistance in this investigation.
