Youth Day a fun, Centennial-themed diversion

As part of the Centennial Jubilee, Youth Day is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Cassidy Park.

Student winners of the essay or creative drawing contests were recently announced.

Winners of the creative drawing contest were: first place, Tia Odom, Byrd Avenue Primary; and second place, Eric Porter, Byrd Avenue Primary.

The elementary essays (grades 2-5) winners were: first place, Rex Perrette, Annunciation Catholic School; second place, Maria Luna, Central Elementary; and third place, Buddy Wisenbaker, Central Elementary.

Annunciation Catholic School’s Joseph Ezell won first place in secondary essays for grades 6-12. In second was Pasquale Lavogna, from Bogalusa High School. In third was Northshore Charter School’s DeAundre Bridges.

Winners can see their names posted at 1 p.m. today at Cassidy Park.

Bogalusa City School Summer Food Service Program will serve a free lunch from Deli in the Park. The menu includes hot dogs, chili on a bun, French fries, fruit and milk. Other beverages will be sold as well. Adults are welcome to join the children for $4.

The Explorers and Col. Bobby Miller will be giving canoe rides in Bogue Lusa Creek.

Activities also will include Fun Fit Kids with Larrilyn Hickman and Ann Culpepper, dance camp with the Bogalusa High School cheerleaders, a splash pad and games of horseshoes, croquette, hop scotch, jump rope, chalk drawing and jacks.
