Northshore Charter School principal Julie Rodriguez couldn’t hide her excitement after the school was recently awarded a $250,000 grant from the Walton Family Foundation.
The grant will allow the institution, entering its second year, to add two computer labs, a science lab, a library and playground equipment to its facilities.
“We are very excited. I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Rodriguez said. “This grant is really going to help our kids receive a better educational experience.”
Northshore Charter School just completed its first school year.
Rodriguez and Northshore Chief Operating Officer Felicia Workman wrote the proposal to the Foundation. Rodriguez said it’s a battle to receive these types of grants. Therein was the satisfaction of getting the grant.
“It is a highly competitive grant. I cried when I found out we received it,” Rodriguez said. “This is usually given to schools in New Orleans. I know this will help our students be successful, and that’s the best part of it.”
