A staging of “Choose Your Own Oz” brought families and fun to Bogalusa’s Cassidy Park Friday.
The production, presented May 23 by the city of Bogalusa and Alpha Psi Omega, was a retelling of the “The Wizard of Oz” that featured a cast and crew from the theater department at Southeastern Louisiana University.
The interactive play, which was written by Tommy Jamerson and directed by James Winter, was filled with music and laughs and gave kids the opportunity to be involved throughout.
There was a good crowd, according to Bogalusa Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture Landon Tims. And those watching the play that night were spread out in front of the park’s performance pavilion, seated in lawn chairs or lounging on blankets.
Among the attendees were Jessica Stevens of Bogalusa and her 5-year-old twin daughters, Savannah and Ella. She said she knew the play was something they would all enjoy.
“They love ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ and they love to dance,” she said.
“Wizard of Oz” fans at the play also included Ginger Crawford and her daughter, Ansley Crawford.
Ansley, who will be in eighth grade next year, is in the drama club at Ben’s Ford Christian School and was excited to attend Friday’s event.
“I love ‘The Wizard of Oz’— read the book, saw the movie, saw the play,” she said.
Her mom said they recently attended an “Oz” production at Covington High School and loved it.
“When we saw this advertised on Facebook, we knew we had to come,” she said.
