Festival in the Park coming to Cassidy Park May 9-11

The Bogalusa Chamber of Commerce will present its 25th annual Festival in the Park Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 9-11.

Located in Cassidy Park on Willis Avenue, The family-friendly outdoor event will run officially from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and after noon on Friday, although as an open, no admission charge, free parking event, hours are left up to the individual vendors to open earlier or stay open later, and the same is true for all the visitors on a regular basis to the park.

Special Saturday night music will be provided by Kipori Woods on the main stage. He will be preceded by a number of other musicians, including David Craig, Ryan Alan and Eli Seals. Owen Tufts, or Big Daddy “O,” and his band will be featured on Mother’s Day, and they will take the stage after the winners of the essay contest are recognized. Tufts ranks among the best blues artists in south Louisiana.

Crafters, artists, schools and non-profit organizations are invited. Entry fees are low and valid for all three days. Commercial vendors and exhibits are welcome too, with separate applications for food booths. Food and snack booths are allowed, offering funnel cakes, blooming onions, Asian dishes, hamburgers and hotdogs, chicken, pork chops, gator and shrimp-on-a-stick, Philly cheese steaks, jambalaya, pulled pork buns, sausage po-boys, cracklins, boiled peanuts, ice cream, snoballs and more. Coca-Cola products will be sold by the chamber, with other beverages to be added for Saturday night with the special afterhours music event.

Activities for kids include a Spacewalk Bounce House and Rockwall/Obstacle Course, water slide, face painting, Mother’s Day Essay Contest, Pegasus Carriages pony rides and carriage rides, Burt Fleming chainsaw artist and more.
