Hezzie Larue Martin, 89, departed this life Saturday, April 19, 2014.
He was born on June 7, 1924, in Washington Parish, where he lived his entire life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving most of his time in Italy.
He was also an Army Veteran of World War II where he severed most of his duty in Italy. He retired from the Gaylord Bag Division and later as a dairyman, which he enjoyed doing for many years with his oldest son, Larue Martin.
He was a member of Pine Missionary Baptist Church for 70 years.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Charles Reeves of Pine and Elane Martin of Hoover, Ala.; two sons and daughters-in-laws, James Larue Martin and Polly Martin of Pine and Pastor Lynn Martin and Connie Martin of Bogalusa; 10 grandchildren, Tammy and Mark Boyd, Danny and Christi Reeves, Melanie and Chad Adcox, Lana and Will Baird, Laura and Tommy Linn,
Natasha and Dr. Brandon Brooks, Eric Scott, Bridget Knight, Shanda and Tim Slocum and Pastor Caleb and Toni Martin; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Shelby Martin and Barbara Martin of Bogalusa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Martin and Aletha Crain Martin; his wife of 65 years, Rosalie Barber Martin; a grandson, Jeremy Chad Martin; a sister, Nezzie Turner; and two brothers, Donald Lamar Martin and Douglas Kirk Martin.
Visitation was Tuesday, April 22 at Crain Funeral Home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Pastor Brent King, his son, Pastor Jerry Lynn Martin, and his grandson, Pastor Caleb Martin. Burial followed with military honors in the Pine Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Charles Danny Reeves and Eric Martin Scott, and great-grandsons, Hunter Boyd, Parker Boyd, Payton Knight and Jeremiah Slocum.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Pine Missionary Baptist or the Pine Chapter of Council on Aging.
