Steve “Pete” Morton, 69, died at 11:10 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at his home in Franklinton, surrounded by his loving family.

Steve, who was born on Aug. 13, 1944, was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam Era. A longtime resident of the New Orleans area, he retired from Crescent Towing as a tugboat engineer after 30 years of service. He loved LSU football and the New Orleans Saints.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was proud to be a charter member of the Father John LeBlanc Council 12245 of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, and was an animal lover who enjoyed feeding his fish, the birds and all of his animals.

Steve loved riding his motorcycle any chance that he could. He was always a loving husband, caring father and devoted grandfather to his large family. He was also a friend to all those he met. He will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Kate Morton of Franklinton, who described her husband as the true love of her life; his mother, Doris Hebert of Marrero; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Nicole and Randy Seal of Franklinton, Amy Morton Jenkins and Louis Jenkins of Abita Springs, Kelly Morton Hobgood and Paul Hobgood and Sarah Morton Call and Wayne Call, all of Franklinton, Bridget Blackwell and Shannon Blackwell, both of Covington, and Dehlia Blackwell of Franklinton; a son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Rupa Blackwell of Playa del Ray, Calif.; 24 grandchildren and spouses, Cody Morton, Randall and Ashley Seal, Hannah Seal and Loren Adams, William and Tierra Seal, Owen Seal, Michael Seal, Joseph Seal, Molly Seal, Mary Seal, Samuel Seal, Joshua Seal, Elle Arnoult, Olivia Becnel, Autum Crowe, Jacob Crowe, Elizabeth Crowe, Jaylen Hobgood, Seth Call, Sakura Call, Avery Blackwell, Jordan Blackwell, Marissa Dunaway, Kingston Tucker and Maddie Blackwell; seven great-grandchildren, Brendan Morton, Blaise Seal, Kadie Seal, Cadin Seal and an expected great-grandchild, Coltin Seal, Maya Blackwell, Lorne Adams Jr. and Gavin Adams; a brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Joann Hebert of Harvey; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Kristy Hebert and Kenny Hodges of Algiers and Cindy Hebert of Marrero; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Whelan Morton; a son, Scott Patrick Morton; an infant daughter, Samantha Morton; a grandson, Tyler Crowe; his father, Larry Hebert; Granny Jones; and grandfather, Clarence Newcomb.

Visitation was Thursday, April 10 at Crain Funeral Home Thursday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until time for the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Peter Hammett. Burial will follow in the Springhill-Magee Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Randy Seal, Wayne Call, Jugo Barletto, Emile Creel, Dave Jorden, Jimmy Flottman, Willie Seal and Billy Watney. Honorary pallbearers are his 12 grandsons.
