MARTIN

Willie Martin passed away Saturday, March 30, 2014, at Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette.

A native of Franklinton, Willie graduated from Washington Parish High School in 1953, and joined the United States Air Force where he served for four years. When he returned he attended Southern University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Speech Pathology. He also attended the University of Louisiana — Lafayette, where he earned his master’s degree. He worked as a speech pathologist in the Lafayette Parish School System for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Matilda Martin; three sons, Joseph, Derek and Carl Martin of Lafayette; and a brother, Rayfus Martin and Kathryn Hart of Franklinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Alma Martin; two brothers, Roy and Johnny Martin; and one sister, Ruby Worlds Martin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, at Trinity CME Church in Lafayette. Interment will follow in the Wilson Family Cemetery on Old Columbia Road in Franklinton at approximate 4 p.m.
