Emogene Dixon Wood, 85, a resident of Franklinton, born May 22, 1928, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
She was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and many years ago worked at Clay’s Jewelers in Franklinton. Emogene later in life became a licensed practical nurse and worked at Riverside Medical Center for many years. She enjoyed reading and looking at the beautiful photos in Southern Living and Good Housekeeping magazines. Emogene also loved tending to her own flowers in her garden.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Nan Wood of Franklinton; four grandchildren, Tammy Gendusa of Covington, Jeffery S. Wood of Prairieville, Kayce Wood Cummings of Bogalusa and Lee Wood of McAllen, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Jeffery T. Jenkins, Nicholas A. Gendusa and Meric W. Cummings; a close friend, Margie Passman of Franklinton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death in January by her loving husband of 66 years, James Arthur “Jimmy” Wood; a daughter, Janice Wood; her parents, Eugene and Nina Mae Shoemaker Dixon; two brothers, Woodrow Dixon and Buck Dixon; and a sister, Dorothy Dixon Penny.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday, March 21 from 5-8 p.m. and on Saturday after 12 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Gene Richards, the Rev. Andrew Voss and the Rev. Paul Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
