SHERIDAN

Shirley Elizabeth Borde Sheridan, 80, born on Sept. 28, 1933 in Bogalusa, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa.

Born on Sept. 28, 1933, Shirley was a graduate of Bogalusa High School, and a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She retired from the Council on Aging, where she worked with the senior citizens of Washington Parish, something that was dear to her heart.

She volunteered her time in many different capacities over the years.

She is survived by two sons, George Truett Sheridan II of Bogalusa and Ken Dawson (Brigitte) Sheridan of Louisville, Miss.; one brother, Stanley N. (Loretta) Borde of Tickfaw; Mary Borde and Mary Helen Seal, both of Bogalusa; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Truett Sheridan; her parents, Charles Henry Borde and Mary Pearl Miller Borde; two brothers, C. W. “Coach” Borde and Richard E. Borde; one sister, Helen Borde Jones; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; and other members of the Borde and Sheridan families.

Visitation was held Tuesday, March 18, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 280 Mt. Pleasant Lane in Bogalusa, from 11 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Brent Barker and the Rev. Mark Hollingsworth officiating.  Interment followed at Ponemah Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Dale Borde, Charles W. Borde Jr., Shelby Borde, Chad Sheridan, Jamie Sheridan and Jeff Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, the Gideons or St. Jude.
