St. Scholastica Academy students recently attended the 41st annual March for Life rally in Washington, D.C. The March for Life, held on Jan. 22 this year, commemorates the anniversary of the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

It is a peaceful march calling for the government to reverse the ruling. This is the eighth year SSA students have had the opportunity to attend this annual event.

SSA students Jesica Arnold, Anna Autin, Avery Autin, Madeline Campo, Elizabeth Carter, Alaina Chifici, Elise Darr, Victoria Despeaux, Toni Fulco, Lauren Gonzales, Emily Guillory, Mallory Guillot, Monica Guillot, Lillian Guttuso, Caroline Marks, Sophie Palopoli, Alyssa Perino, Shelby Richard, Kate Rovira, Rachel Rovira, Jordan St. Philip, Caroline Stafford, Ashley Stein, Emily Stein, and Megan Whittemore were led by theology teachers Aimee Boudreaux MacIver ’96 and Lynne Fritscher Link ‘07 and parent chaperone Melanie Arnold, mother of Jesica Arnold.

The students started their pilgrimage on Saturday, touring the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Memorial and World War II Memorial.

They visited the Smithsonian Museums and the National Holocaust Museum and worshiped at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

St. Scholastica students joined approximately 500 other students and leaders from schools and parishes throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The students marched and prayed side-by-side with Archbishop Gregory A. Aymond, united in the pro-life cause.
