Late last year, the Louisiana State Police received a complaint from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office about reported theft and malfeasance in office involving a former deputy.

The investigation revealed that Deputy Randell Dykes, 43, had sold Sheriff’s Office property, while on duty, to a local scrap yard on four separate occasions. Dykes reportedly sold Sheriff’s Office property with a total value of approximately $1,000 to a local recycling center, cashed the checks at a local bank after each transaction and never deposited the funds for the Sheriff’s Office, according to Master Trooper Greg Marchand, Troop L spokesperson.

Through investigative techniques, the State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Dykes for theft and malfeasance in office. He turned himself into the Washington Parish Jail in Franklinton on Monday without incident.
