James Todd Knight, a pharmacist at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center, was the main presenter at the Diabetic Support Group’s annual noon luncheon held recently at the hospital.
Knight spoke about the two levels of diabetics, and the use of insulin, medicine therapy and a combination of both when trying to curb high blood sugar rates in patients.
A light, healthy repast was prepared by Beth Knight, the hospital’s licensed nutritionist and staff, which consisted of fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, lean meats, light bakery goods with low sodium content, and yogurt for dessert.
The lead for the monthly health education activity was licensed dietician Dotti Kenda, and Doris Lanius, RN, was the consultant for the group. She announced that more than 50 canned goods were collected to donate to the local food bank.
Several door prizes were given away.
