Bogalusa Police Chief Joe Culpepper said Tuesday that an autopsy report shows the man who died early Saturday morning after a fight outside L&C died as a result of blunt force trauma “caused by the road or the ground” to his head.

Chad Ellis, 42, was unconscious and not breathing when the police arrived on the scene outside the Louisiana Avenue bar at approximately 1:30 a.m.

“The pathologist does not feel like there was any weapon like a bottle, bat or piece of pipe, involved,” Culpepper said. “We are fairly certain he was hit with a fist and then hit the ground.”

The chief said a person of interest has been identified, but the identity of the person of interest has already changed once, so he will not release the name pending further investigation.

Police are still trying to interview witnesses. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call detectives at 732-6238 immediately.
