The Washington Parish Drug Task Force arrested Leonard Lewis, 40, on Nov. 12 after a short foot chase on West 3rd Street in Bogalusa.

Officers initially stopped Lewis in his car, but he fled on foot, discarding a bottle of OxyContin as he ran, according to a release issued by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office. OxyContin is a narcotic commonly referred to as Roxycontin.

Officers caught Lewis, retrieved the illegal drugs and seized $2,301 dollars in cash that was in his possession, according to the release. They also seized the vehicle from which Lewis was allegedly selling the drugs.

Lewis was arrested and booked into the Washington Parish Jail on charges of distribution of schedule II drugs, possession with intent to distribute schedule II drugs, obstruction of justice and resisting an officer by flight on foot. He remains in jail with bond set at $350,000.

Sheriff Randy Seal said the WPSO is intent on arresting drug dealers.

“The Drug Task Force is a valuable asset to the sheriff’s office as we continue our effort to fight drugs and to arrest drug dealers,” he said, adding that the Sheriff’s office will continue to seek out and arrest people dealing drugs throughout the parish.
