Charles Anthony Martin Sr.

Charles Anthony Martin Sr. was born on Dec. 9, 1958, in Bogalusa. Charles was the sixth child born to the union of to the late Luther Martin Sr. and late Rovella Harry Martin. He departed on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 5 a.m.

Charles was a member of Wesley Ray UMC. He attended Wesley Ray High School and graduated from Varnado High School in 1976. Charles was in the forefront of basketball and football teams, championship and playoff games.

Charles attended Southern University. He later joined the 205th Engineering Battalion Combat Heavy of the United States National Guard. Charles attended Delgado Community College in New Orleans and received his specialty skills of architectural drafting and design.

Charles was employed with Thomas Sheet Metal and Crown Zellerbach. Later, he was employed at a nuclear plant in Bay City, Texas and as a supervisor at Carlon Pipe Plant in Houston, Texas.

He was formerly married to Ruth Bickham Martin, and through this union two children were born, Jene’ and Charles Jr. “CJ”.

Charles leaves to mourn two children, Jene’ Rovella Martin and Charles Anthony Martin, Jr., both of Angie; two brothers, Luther Jr. (Donna) Martin of Beaumont, Texas and Steven (Sheronda) Martin of St. Louis, Mo.; four sisters: Thelma (Eric) Cousin of Angie, Shirley (Julius) Jackson and Brenda (Robert) Robinson, all of Bogalusa, and Tracy Martin of Angie; one goddaughter, Lauren Martin of Houston; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Martin and Rovella Harry Martin; one brother, Jerry Lester Martin; and his grandparents.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at Wesley Ray United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service is at 11 a.m., with Rev. Terrance August, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Jefferson Cemetery in Angie.
