LEVY

Mary Louise Levy, 84, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at her residence in Bogalusa.

Born on June 6, 1929, she graduated from Bogalusa High School, and from Southeastern Louisiana University with a bachelor’s degree in music education, from Louisiana State University with a master’s degree in music education, and from the University of Colorado, Boulder; the University of California, Berkeley; and the University of Southern Mississippi, with 30-plus hours.

She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, where she served as an organist for more than 70 years. She was a member of the Annunciation Altar Society, the Rosary Society, Oblate of St. Benedict, and she received an Order of St. Louis Medallion for her work in the church. She was also the Catachetical instructor for elementary classes at all levels, a sponsor and instructor for RCIA and a scripture study facilitator and instructor.

Miss Levy was also a member of Ingleside Literary Society, Cassidy Park Museums, Friends of the Library, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association.

She is survived by nieces Janet Daniel Strickland and husband Glynn, Barbara Daniel Breland and Mary Katherine Daniel Duckworth; a nephew, Malcolm Noel Daniel and wife Linda; nieces Karen Levy Nuce and husband Jim and Jane Levy Mead; nephews Henry Nathan Levy III and wife Marie, and Mark Levy and wife Angela; a sister-in-law, Patricia Hendry Levy; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews to the fifth generation.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry Nathan Levy Sr. and Mary Louise “Mamie” Innerarity; four sisters, Lois Levy Daniel, Thelma Julia Levy, Vera Levy Horton and Helen Nathalie Levy; one brother, Henry Nathan Levy Jr.; a nephew, Darryl David Daniel; and two nephews-in-law, Loren D. Breland, M.D., and Thomas Watson Duckworth III.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at Annunciation Catholic Church from 11 a.m. until time for the Funeral Mass at 1 p.m., celebrated by Father Lawrence Phelps, OSB. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
