Melinda Wilson Miller, 56, departed this life Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013.

She was born in Franklinton on Nov. 1, 1956, and graduated from Franklinton High School in 1975. She attended Second Baptist Church, where she accepted Christ, under the leadership of the Rev. Alfred Holmes and the Rev. Larry Thomas.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Louis A. Miller of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Conchita Miller Brown of Franklinton; six grandchildren; four sisters; one brother; her mother-in-law, Jessie Mae Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Louis Miller; one son, Elbert “P-nut” Wilson; and her parents, Elbert G. Wilson and Georgia L. Brazley Wilson.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 18, at Second Baptist Church, 2000 Bene St. in Franklinton, from 4-7 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greater Hayes Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Franklinton, with the Rev. Jerome Warren as host church and the Rev. Larry Thomas officiating. Interment will be follow in Greater Hayes Cemetery.

KEMP

Bruce Larue Kemp, 61, died Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2013, at his residence in the Stateline Community.

Born September 5, 1952, he was a member of Stateline Missionary Baptist Church, and retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation after 29 years of service. He enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and raising cattle on his farm. He will be remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor and his love of good food.

He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bradford and Evelyn Kemp of Stateline and Brent and Sandra Kemp of Pine; an uncle and aunt, Lavon and Betty Kemp of Lumberton, Miss.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Alvin and Louisia Ard Kemp; a brother, Randol H. Kemp; two infant brothers, John M. Kemp and Jeffrey M. Kemp; and his grandparents, Otto and Susie Ard and Sidney and Bevie Kemp.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Stateline Missionary Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Elder Donnie Broome and Elder Yancy Magee officiating. Burial followed in the Crain Cemetery at Stateline.

Pallbearers were James Slocum, Ragen Knight, Phillip Kemp, Wayne Nobles, Rocky Burch and Wayne Rawls.

Honorary pallbearers were coworkers from the Franklinton and Hammond DOTD.
