PENTON

William Ester Penton, 92, a resident of the Crain’s Creek Community, died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Resthaven Living Center in Bogalusa.

He was the longtime owner and operator of Penton Sand and Gravel, and enjoyed farming. He was born on Feb. 11, 1921, and as a young man, he joined Clifton Baptist Church. Throughout his life he was always quick to help other people. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and keeping up with the news. Ester always looked out for the wellbeing of his family, and was a blessing to all those he met.

He is survived by two sons, Wayne Penton and Keith Penton, both of Crain’s Creek; a daughter, Donna Penton of Angie; 11 grandchildren and spouses, Kippy and Johh Sumrall, Robbie and Robbie Ann Penton, Scotty Kennedy, Casey and Shelly Kennedy, Cole Penton, Zane Penton, Alyssa Penton, Tammy Smith, Meghan McCarthy, Toby Penton, Nicole Ledet Gaudin and Michael Gaudin; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Laura Nell Penton; a son-in-law, Ronald Joe Kennedy; two half sisters, Ernestine Lawson and Christine Sticker, both of Franklinton; and a half brother, Milton Penton of Franklinton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donia Breland Penton; a son, Robert Ester Penton; two daughters, Kathryn Penton Kennedy and Gwen Penton Thomas; his mother, Cynthia Tullos Penton; his father and stepmother, George Erwin Penton and Josephine Stogner Penton; five brothers, Kelly Penton, Jewell Penton, Buford Penton, Elton Penton and Melvin Tullos; and two half sisters, Merle Crain and Helen King.

Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 7 at Crain Funeral Home from 6-10 p.m., and continued on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Denny Brumfield and Eld. Edward Penton officiating. Burial followed in Crain’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

His six grandsons were pallbearers: Robbie Penton, Cole Penton, Zane Penton, Toby Penton, Scotty Kennedy and Casey Kennedy.
