GORDON

Joe Gordon, 75, died shortly after midnight Thursday, Oct. 03, 2013, at his home in Franklinton.

Born Dec. 20, 1937, he was a native of Sunflower County, Miss., and a member of Fisher United Methodist Church. He retired as an oilfield supervisor for McClanahan Corp., and became a beef cattleman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking. He loved to barbecue and host gatherings for his friends and family.

Joe was the beloved husband and best friend to his wife of 36 years, Charlotte Honeycutt Gordon. He also is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny Jane Gordon Allen and John Allen of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Rena and Rick Sturdivant of West Monroe; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Gordon of Pass Christian, Miss., and Timothy Kennedy Gordon and Sylvia Gordon of West Monroe; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Oscar Gordon Sr. and Dolores Gordon of Amite, Billy and Judy Gordon of Marrero and Pat and Gail Gordon of Westwego; five sisters, Ruth Fortner of Ponchatoula, Mary Jane Self of Crowder, Miss., Shirley Hidalgo of Independence, Polly Gordon of Ponchatoula and Martha May of Pascagoula; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dolly and BoBo Davis of Venice; a brother-in-law, Robert Bergeron of Breaux Bridge; numerous nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, his pet dog, Sally.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cecilia Jo “CC” Gordon; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie Rena Gordon Pugh and Jackie Pugh; his parents, Walter James Gordon and Leona Barnett Gordon; a brother, Paul Junior Gordon; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter Gordon Sr. and Leona Gordon; and a sister-in-law, Paulette Bergeron.

Visitation was held Saturday, Oct. 5 at Crain Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Percy Mac Fraizer and the Rev. Ray Varnado officiating. Burial followed in the Fisher Cemetery.
