Gussie Tynes Sr., 82, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at his residence in Bogalusa.

Born Aug. 14, 1931, he was retired from Gaylord Container Corp., Box Plant Division, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of United Faith Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by four sons, Gussie Paul Jr. and Margie Tynes of Poplarville, Miss., Otha Allen (Jena) Tynes of Rogers, Ark., and Julius Walter Tynes and “Country” Rendell Tynes, both of Bogalusa; two daughters, Romona (Jackie) Rogers and Princess Katie Tynes, both of Bogalusa; a brother, Otha Tynes Jr. of Poplarville; three sisters, Verena Swilling and Annette Welsh, both of Mobile, Ala., and Mary Williams of Jackson, Miss.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otha Sr. and Cecilia Tynes; his wife, Irene Tynes; a son, Christopher Scott Tynes; a brother, Warren Tynes; and two sisters, Pauline Polk and Tudell Tynes.

Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 29 at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m., and continued on Monday from 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Charles Warren and the Rev. Kirk Hoelzel conducting the services. Interment followed at Pounds Cemetery. The American Legion Magic City Post 24 conducted military services.
