Elette Cooper, seated, the oldest active member of the American Legion organization in the state, was treated to an ice cream and cake birthday celebration following the presentation of certificates and caps honoring the Venturer 333 and 200 canoe teams for their performance in the 2013 White River Canoe Race, which culminated in national championships for most of the teams. Cooper, who remains active in Legion activities such as Thursday night bingo, is a resident of Resthaven Living Center. He continues to drive himself wherever he needs to go. Holding Cooper’s birthday cake are Venturer 200 Crew members Grace Fornea, left, and Kirsten Barber. Standing behind Cooper is Magic City Post 24 Commander Buddy Fornea.
