SMITH

Marie Edna Derogers Smith departed this life Tuesday, July 30, 2013, and went home to be with Jesus Christ, her loving Savior. She was born in Mix on Aug. 14, 1916, to the union of Phillip “Mike” and Mary Edith Jacque Derogers.

Edna was educated at the old Travelers Baptist Church along False River Road. She later married Junious Benjamin Smith and proudly raised a family in Bogalusa. During her lifetime she was a faithful servant, homemaker, caregiver, custodian and partner of Smith’s Grocery alongside her husband. While living in Bogalusa her stewardship at Annunciation Catholic Church included serving on the Altar Society, weekly prayer groups and prison ministry for many years. She served the community as an election commissioner for many years. She was received the City of Bogalusa 50 years of Business Service to the Community award and was a member of AARP, Local Chapter 4032.

Surviving are her sisters, Rose Celestine, Agnes Gosserand, Ann Volta, Theresa Dundy, Marjorie Martin and Mary Ellen Norwood; three sons, JB Jr. (Sonny), William Frederick (Bubba) and Christopher Abbott Smith; eight daughters, Mary Jeanetta Binns, Melba Jean Simmons, Carolyn Smith Jacquet, Lynda Green, Theresa Ivory, Melany Johnson, Mamie Elizabeth and Gwendolyn Smith Perkins; three sons-In-law, Bill McCoy, James Ivory and Willie Perkins; and three daughters-In-law, Willie Jean Boyd, Frances and Emma Jean.

Waiting to greet her in eternal life are her parents; her husband; her siblings, Ferman (K-Boy), Philip, Hazel, Eloise, Agnes, Sadie and Catherine; three children, Phillip Louis, Margaret Elaine McCoy and baby girl Smith; and a host of relatives and close friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 5 in the chapel at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 5-7 p.m., followed by a wake service at 7 p.m. and Ra rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Visitation will continue on Tuesday at Annunciation Catholic Church, 202 West 5th St. in Bogalusa from 9 a.m. until 10:50 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Father Patrick Collum, officiating. Interment will be in New Roads, LA. Please sign the guestbook at www.crainandsons.com.
