Lumberjack, chainsaw competition set for fall

Sawdust and Splinters, a unique competition scheduled to take place this fall in Mississippi, will showcase the talents of lumberjacks and chainsaw carvers.
Events will fall into the categories of lumberjack, pole climbing and chainsaw carving and will include Axe Throw; Double Buck Sawing; Pro Open Speed Climb – 60 foot; Pro Open Speed Climb – 90 foot; Men’s Underhand Block Chop; Standing Block Chop; Springboard Chop; Hot Saw; and Jack and Jill.
World-champion lumberjacks and nationally recognized chainsaw carvers will compete. Amateur competitions will also take place, in addition to other activities. Food, arts and crafts vendors and live music will be part of the event as well.
Sawdust and Splinters, the vision of Mississippi native Mike Hobgood, will take place Thursday, Oct. 31 through Saturday, Nov. 2 at Shirard Gray Estates, 1107 Gray Cemetery Road in Magnolia, Miss. The event will run from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Advance tickets are $18 for Thursday, $20 for Friday and $23 for Saturday, with an additional $2 added at the gate.
