Dorothy Barber King, 76, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in Mandeville. Born in Walthall County, Miss., she moved to Bogalusa at an early age, but lived in Metairie for 54 years. She met Carl, the love of her life, while employed by General Electric. He passed away on Oct. 6, 2010.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Orleans Homebuilders Association, the Ladies’ Birthday Luncheon Group and the Bereavement Group of Mary Queen of Peace.

She had such a kind heart, which overflowed with goodness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She leaves two loving daughters, Karen (Leif) Olsson of Destrehan and Sharon (Rodney) Ratliff of Mandeville; and five wonderful grandchildren who were the light of her life, Kyle, Kody and Kaleb Anderson and Rebecca and Joshua Ratliff; sisters-in-law Demple S. Barber of Bogalusa and Nellwyn Torres of Garyville; one brother-in-law, Tommy Tamplain of Kenner; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She always felt blessed to have had so many great and caring friends.

Her parents, Luthur W. Barber and Dollie Dillon Barber, and her 10 siblings preceded her in death.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Thursday, July 11, at 1 p.m., preceded by a visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
