Arthur “Art” Lee Newton departed this life Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the age of 62. He was born on March 8, 1951 in Prentiss, Miss., to Erma Newton Muse and the late James Newton.

Art leaves his precious memories to be cherished by his devoted wife, Derana Batiste Newton of Willingboro, N.J.; two daughters, Constanzia “Trish” (Eric) Churn of Willingboro and Marika (Bill) Johnson of East Point, Ga.; one son, Phillip “Toby” (Kenya) Mark II of Greensboro, N.C.; his mother, Erma Newton Muse of Bogalusa; five sisters, Jewel Adams of Columbus, Ohio, Ruby Williams of Shreveport, Frances Newton of New Brunswick, N.J., Stacy (Willie) Crawford of Columbus and Gloria Newton of Bogalusa; one brother, James Earl (Mary) Newton of Bogalusa; his mother-in-law, Ethel Batiste Henry of Bogalusa; three brothers-in-law, Ira (Rhea) Batiste Sr. and Willie (Adrean) Batiste, both of Bogalusa, and Ralph Batiste of Baton Rouge; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Batiste of Columbus and Cindy (Thurman) Baptiste of Natchitoches; 10 grandchildren, Mercedes Potter and Keenan Worsley of Willingboro, Jada, Jalen, Byron, and Branden Johnson, all of East Point, and Genesis, Chloe, Faith and Ariel Mark, all of Greensboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Art was preceded in death by his father, James Newton; three brothers, Henry James Newton, Dennis Davis and Lamar Newton; and one sister, Nadine Newton.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 22 at Crain & Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 9-10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jerry Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Bogalusa Cemetery.
