BRUMFIELD

Billie Ruth Nelson Fields Brumfield, 78, a resident of Bogalusa, departed this life April 30, 2013, at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center.

Billie, affectionately called “Bill” by her family and friends, was born on Nov. 3, 1934 in Perkinston (Sweet Beulah), Miss. She was educated in the Perkinston school system and later was trained as medical assistant.

Billie was united with Metropolitan Baptist Church where she faithfully served under the leadership of the Rev. M. J. Galloway.

At an early age, she married Eddie Lee Fields, who preceded her in death. She later married Marvin L. Brumfield, who also preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Edward E. Lee of Grand Bay, Ala.; two granddaughters, Lisa Fields Harper of Slidell and Riyana Marshall of Ocean Springs, Miss.; four siblings, the Rev. Dr. Alfonso S. (June) Nelson of Varnado, Ruby Jo Harris (Algie) Craft of Bogalusa, Rosemary Crosby (Willie A.) Broughton of Gulfport, Miss. and Joe L. Nelson of Gulfport; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeffery Odeal Nicholson and Matthew S. Nelson; her husbands, Eddie Fields and Marvin Brumfield; her daughter, Diane Fields James; and her sister, Irma (Tiny) Nelson Ross.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 3 at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home from 2-6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday at Metropolitan Baptist Church, with the Rev. M. J. Galloway officiating. Interment will follow in Bogalusa Cemetery.
