TALLEY

Vernon A. Talley, 86, passed away at 9:32 p.m. on April 28, 2013, at his home in Bogalusa.

Born in Isabel on Sept. 9, 1926, he was the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Daniel Talley. He was married to Doris “Pap” Pierce Talley on July 3, 1946; they were married for 51 years before her death in 1997.

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1943 to1947, earning the rank of petty officer. He retired from the Boeing Company as an engineer. He enjoyed singing and visiting with family and friends, and after retirement he loved raising cattle. He was also involved in the American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his second wife of 15 years, Wanzie M. Bedwell Jenkins Talley; his three children, Sandra Connors, Donna (Willard) Hall and Grant (Pam) Talley; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Jeffery (Lindsey) Purvis, Jodi (Wade) Byrd, Kelly (Rip) Seal, Jennifer (Robert) Wheat and Garrett Talley; his eight wonderful grandchildren, Seth, Macy, Drake, Caleb, Elijah, Ethan, Chloe and Celena; two step-great-grandchildren, Mason and Miranda; a brother, Berkley Talley; a sister, Charlotte Little; and other family and friends.

His parents; one sister, Edith; and his wife, Doris, preceded him in death. His family and friends will dearly miss him.

Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, 610 Avenue F in Bogalusa. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8 am. to 10 a.m., when military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 24. Interment will follow at Lee’s Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Pastor Charles Warren of Church of United Faith will be officiating.
