Gardner elected judge for 22nd Judicial District

Voters in Washington and St. Tammany parishes selected a new judge for Division G of the 22nd Judicial District Court Saturday.

Scott Gardner, an assistant district attorney, won the district judge seat with 72 percent of the votes, or 13,538. Opponent Alan A. Zaunbrecher finished with 5,216 votes, or 28 percent.

In Washington Parish, 3,338 voters, or 74 percent, voted for Gardner, while 1,179 votes, or 26 percent, cast votes for Zaunbrecher.

Gardner, a Republican, started in the New Orleans District Attorney’s Office in 1987 and has been a prosecutor in the 22nd Judicial District since 1994. He has prosecuted more than 400 jury trials, including cases of murder, child abuse, rape and narcotics trafficking and has received several Prosecutor of the Year awards.
