Parish School Board millage renewal approved; judge elected

Washington Parish voters approved the renewal of a Washington Parish School System-wide maintenance millage.
The millage renewal was approved by 55 percent of the vote, 1885-1553.
The 4.83-mill tax will be levied for the 10-year period from 2014 to 2023 and will be used to acquire, construct, improve, operate, maintain, equip and furnish schools and school-related facilities throughout the system.
All parish residents, except those in Bogalusa, were able to vote on the millage renewal.
Also, Assistant District Attorney Scott Gardner has been elected to the 22nd Judicial District bench.
Gardner won the Division G judgeship over opponent Alan Zaunbrecher with 72 percent of the vote – 13,538-5,216. The race was in St. Tammany and Washington parishes.
Washington Parish voters cast 3,338 votes for Gardner and 1,179 for Zaunbrecher.
