School board members recognized at BCS board meeting

The Bogalusa City School Board’s regular meeting, held Tuesday, March 19, opened with the recognition of the Bogalusa City Schools Students of the Year. See Sunday’s Daily News for the Students of the Year.

Following the awards presentation, Acting Superintendent Willie “Toni” Breaux presented board members with certificates of merit for completing the LSBA 2012 School Board Members Development Program. In other board business, the updated transportation policy, with the addition of the new steps necessary for the expulsion of riders for bullying, was approved. It states that a student may be expelled from the bus, but by the principal only.

Permission to bid for foods and supplies for the 2013-14 school year was granted for Child Nutrition Director Joannie Miller, as well permission to sponsor the Summer Food Service Program this summer.

The Bogalusa High School JROTC was granted permission to attend a rifle match in Gulfport, Miss., on April 20, and the Cadet Leadership Challenge to be held at Camp Shelby, Miss. on May 30 through June 4.

The financial statements as submitted by Financial Director Deloris Walker were approved, as well as a dozen new policies submitted by Breaux, including student conduct, bullying and hazing, student discipline, suspension, expulsion and child abuse.

The Bogalusa City School Board meetings are scheduled to be held the last Monday and Thursday of each month, which would be the week of April 22 However, those dates are subject to change.
