BURKETT

Hazel Jordan Burkett, a native and resident of Bogalusa, was born on Aug. 30, 1925, and passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the age of 87 at Pearl River County Nursing Home in Poplarville, Miss.

She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She also held memberships in AARP, the American Legion Post 24 Auxiliary, the Municipal Police Officers Association and the Louisiana Police Officers Association. She retired from the Bogalusa Police Department.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Burkett Hunt of New Orleans and Kay B. Crowe of Poplarville; three sons, Johnny Burkett of Columbia, Miss., Tommy Burkett of Carriere, Miss. and Kim Burkett of Poplarville; two sisters, Delores Broulette of Georgia and Nell Carpinelli of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Burkett Sr.; one son, Edward D. Burkett Jr.; and her parents, Johnny S. Jordan and Corrine Alsobrooks Jordan.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20 at Poole-Ritchie Funeral from 5:30-8 p.m.

Visitation will continue Thursday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Phil Thigpen officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
