The construction prep work that started a couple of weeks ago at Sullivan Drive and East 4th Street is a sign of a new Dollar General Store in the making, according to Bogalusa Director of Public Works James Hall.
The store will be the fourth such store in the Bogalusa area, joining others on Avenue F, Louisiana Highway 21 South and Shenandoah Street, he said.
There is also a Family Dollar Store on Avenue B, and it was recently announced that a Dollar Tree will be built on one of the outlying lots of the Walmart property on Ontario Avenue.
Construction of the new Dollar General Store has been in the planning stages for about six months, Hall said.
“And they go up fast,” he said. “They expect to be open by the first of June.”
Applications for employment can be found online at dollargeneral.com.
Hall said that the city is currently working with other business owners who want to move into Bogalusa and will announce them as the deals are sealed.
