Trailblazers of the integration movement honored

The Annual Black History Program at Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Franklinton honored those at the forefront of the integration movement in the parish. Speaker Beatrice Bickham, pictured second from left, and co-speaker Alice Dillon, third from left, were among the first Blacks to attend one of the white public schools in the parish. Their church family honored them for their courage, bravery and intelligence. Pictured at left is Pastor Mallery Callahan Sr. and at right is Beatrice’s husband,Lonnie Bickham Sr.
