SMITH

Mary Ella “Toby” Alford Smith, 81, a resident of Mt. Hermon, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington.

Born Dec. 13, 1931, she worked alongside her husband as owner/operator of Thigpen Concrete and Smith Sand and Gravel. She enjoyed cooking and doing puzzles with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert “Bob” Smith of Mt. Hermon; a daughter, Connie Smith of Mt. Hermon; a son, Cecil Cooper of Clinton; a grandson, Thomas (Paula) Fisher of Mt. Hermon; a granddaughter, Vanessa Fisher of Mt. Hermon; five great-grandchildren, Gage Moran, Jacey Moran, Lyric Moran Austin Wilkes, Abbey Wilkes; two sisters, Eleanor “Pete” (J.W. “Doc”) Schilling and Delores Corkern, both of Mt. Hermon; a brother, J. Paul (Barbara) Alford of Mt. Hermon; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Ruth Alford, Grace Roberts, Martha and Douglas Miller, Vivian Smith, Edna Mae and William Sprehe and Ralph Burch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert D. Smith Jr.; her parents, J.P. and Connie Wilkes Alford; and a sister, Patsy Alford Dedon.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 9 at Crain Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Sunday from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. James Kemp and Rev. Leonard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 25393 Mt. Pisgah Road, Mt. Hermon, LA 70450.
