Lelia Morris Spikes, 89, departed this life Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013.
Born June 23, 1923, she united with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at an early age. On May 2, 1942, she was united in marriage to the late P. K. Spikes, and to this union 16 children were born — 11 daughters and five sons, and she had one stepdaughter and one stepson.
She is survived by 13 children, Jerri (Alvin) Pichon of Emeryville, Calif., Carolyn (Donald L. Sr.) Jones of Baton Rouge, Katherine (Rodney) Roberston, Shirley Spikes Jackson of Bogalusa, Commander Arnetta Spikes (retired) of Virginia Beach, Va., Irma Spikes Grant of Phoenix, Ariz., Yvonne Spikes Paige of San Leandro, Calif., Linda Spikes Wilson, Richard Spikes, Willie Spikes and James (Patricia) Spikes, all of Bogalusa, and P. K. (Alice) Spikes Jr. of New Orleans; two nephews, Willie James Morris of Dallas and Glendora Hawthorne, Charles Morris, Kettie Jefferson, Gent Jefferson, and Earnest (Stephanie) Spikes of Varnado; 57 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, Gertrude Graves and Jimmy Polk, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death her parents, Fannie Mizell Morris and Willie T. Morris; three biological children and two stepchildren, Diana, Anita, Joann, Ellie Leroy Spikes, and Irene Spikes Wilson of Bogalusa; two brothers and two sisters, Richard Morris, Chris Morris, Annise Morris and Flonia Will Morris Martin; and two nephews, Cleotha Martin and Warren Martin.
Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 7 at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home of Bogalusa from 2-5 p.m. The funeral service will be on Friday, at Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., with Rev. Terrence August officiating. Interment will follow in Robinson Cemetery.
