Fire concert not a scam

The concert in Baton Rouge that solicitors say will benefit the Bogalusa Fire Department is not a scam.

Bogalusa Fire Chief Richard Moody and local union president Duane Fuller said Wednesday that, due to communications problems, they were not aware that the Professional Fire Fighters of Louisiana benefit concert was, in fact, legitimate until after the BFD issued a warning that it was a scam.

Now they want everyone to know that if they are contacted by the PFFAL about a May 4 concert in Baton Rouge to benefit the BFD, they can purchase tickets knowing the local firefighters will be among the beneficiaries.

The concert will start at 8 p.m. at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The show is The Temptations Review, featuring Dennis Edwards of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Louisiana Blues Man and Chris LeBlanc.

Besides members of the 52 local firefighters associations in Louisiana, this year’s beneficiaries will include the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Baton Rouge Burn Center, Lifeshare Blood Centers, American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
