JAMES

Hermon James Jr. navigated his way to his final destination in the arms of Jesus Christ on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013.

He was born March 14, 1942, the son of a schoolteacher, and was enriched with knowledge at an early age. He matriculated through the Tangipahoa Parish School System and later attended Southern University A&M. After college he married Nevodice Dokes and had four children, Steffon James Sr., Eric E. James Sr., Marie A. James, and Donald R. James. He was a natural navigator and began a career as a truck driver for several national companies. Through his experience traveling the interstates, highways and streets of the United States, he touched lots of lives on his journey.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Brenda F. James; six sons, Steffon James Sr., Eric E. James Sr., Donald R. James, Corey M. Conerly, Chadrick L. James, and Yancey L. James; one daughter, Marie A. James; four daughters-in-law, Sheila James, Lisa James, Credisheau James Clara Conerly, and Kimberly James; 25 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his beloved sisters, Ruthie Cornish and Paulette James; three godchildren, Nedra Warren, LaSkyia Simmons and Cedric Harris.

Throughout his journey he became a father figure to his nephews, Edmond James, Patrick James, Michael Jackson and Patrick Burton. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Maudine Conerly, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Christy and Candace; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Conerly; his parents, Hermon and Clotiel James; and two brothers, Roymell James and Clarence James.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 1 from 2-7 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Magee’s Temple Church of God In Christ, with Supt. Cecealine Tate officiating. Interment will be held at Sweet Home Cemetery.
