Everett Austin Holcombe Jr., 90, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at LSU Bogalusa Medical Center. A native and resident of Bogalusa, he was born Jan. 14, 1923. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a member of Magic City American Legion Post 24, where he served as Past Commander. He was a veteran of WWII who served in the Army Air Force and was a member of the 40 & 8. He also served in the Louisiana National Guard, where he served as Commander of the 205th.

He is survived by his wife, Georgine Knight Holcombe of Bogalusa; his grandchildren, Faron Holcombe, Shelia McGehee and Tanya Adams; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rev. Wilson A. “Bill” Holcombe; a grandson, Scott Holcombe; and his parents, Everett Austin Holcombe Sr. and Viola Dickey Holcombe.

Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 28 at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 511 Avenue D, Bogalusa, from 9 a.m. until the time for the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Dr. Jim Stayton officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery with military graveside services conducted Magic City American Legion Post 24.
