Juanita Eileen Magee, 94, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012. She was the daughter of the late O.B. Magee and Ellen Babington.
Eileen was born Feb. 6, 1918 in Franklinton and moved to Bogalusa with her parents. She lived her entire life there. She graduated from Bogalusa High School as valedictorian, setting a record grade point average. She also graduated from LSU, earning a degree in library science. She graduated from Whitworth College, Brookhaven, Miss., with an associate in arts. She taught mathematics and library science for many years in schools in Franklinton, Northwestern State University at Natchitoches and Bogalusa.
Though she had no children of her own, she loved her cousins and enjoyed hearing about the accomplishments of their children. She kept pictures of the many grandchildren on the wall by her bed.
She loved her church and attended and supported it generously through the years. She worked with groups making ceramics, which were really beautiful. She also enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and reading.
She is survived by her cousins, Herbert Robert (Betty) Babington Jr. of Slidell, Dr. Thomas M. (Sybil) Babington III of Little Rock, Ark., Margie Babington Sullivan of Meadville, Miss., Mary Ann Babington Barlow of Nashville, Tenn. and Sally Babington and Wayne Knight of Franklinton, Branden (Flo) McAlister, and numerous other cousins and family members.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 at Crain Funeral Home beginning at 12:30 p.m. with a funeral service to be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Steve Bush and Rev. Tom Dolth officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellis Cemetery.
