Melton Jerome Brumfield

On Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, without warning, death plucked a flower from our garden. It was a beautiful flower with a big heart and full of hugs and smiles. Melton Jerome Brumfield, affectionately known as “Melt,” was called from earth to Heaven’s Reward.

He united with Shady Grove Missionary Church at an early age. He attended Chesbrough Elementary School and Sumner High School. He was a worker that provided for his family. He was employed by Mr. Samuel Rainey at Rainy Auto Sale.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Ernestine Brumfield of 10 years; one daughter, Lillian Brumfield; two sons, Cardell and Palton Brumfield, all of Kentwood; his wonderful mother, Lillie Brumfield of Kentwood; one brother, Johnny Brumfield; three sisters, Fachinna Miller, Jacqueline Huff and Jill Dunomes, all of Kentwood; seven aunts, Cora Williams, Emma Jean Rome of Baton Rouge, Ida Kelly of McComb, Miss., Alma Martin of Hammond and Dorothy McCray, Jerredean Huff and Thelma Butler of Kentwood.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny W. Brumfield of Kentwood, and his paternal and maternal grandparents, Velma and Melton Brumfield and Addine and Sam Smith.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at Union Chapel AME Church in Kentwood.
