There is a citywide curfew in Bogalusa on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 p.m to 6 a.m.

In response to Tropical Storm Isaac, Washington Parish President Richard Thomas has asked that Red Cross assist in opening shelters for those who do not feel safe in their homes. Shelters were opened at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and will remain open until the weather subsides. The shelters are located at Franklinton High School, 1 Demon Circle in Franklinton and at Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial United Methodist Church, 510 Avenue B in Bogalusa.

The shelters are to be considered safe havens only and do not have back up electricity. Residents are urged to bring necessities such as pillows, blankets, prescription medication and personal hygiene articles. CORRECTION:BHS Principal Lesley McKinley said Tuesday morning that as of that time the football game with Kentwood was still tentatively scheduled for Friday. He said the situation would be reassessed on Thursday morning, and that if it is not possible to play on Friday, Saturday would be an option. Check this website Thursday for the decision.

It had been reported by two school officials during a school board meeting Monday night that the game was postponed.

Self-serve sandbags are now available at four locations in Bogalusa: under the flagpoles in Cassidy Park, the intersection of Austin and Bayer streets, the Avenue B Sports Complex and the East Fourth Street Ball Park. Residents are asked to bring their own shovels.

Washington Parish has sandbag filling locations set up at the Washington Parish Public Works Location #1, 801 Pearl St., Franklinton; Washington Parish Public Works Location #2, 7 Mile Road/Hwy 10 YACC Building, Franklinton; and Washington Parish Fire District #7, 17380 Bill Booty Road, Bogalusa.
